The Civil Air Patrol's Sequoyah Cadet Squadron needed an emblem that met national program standards while still representing this specific squadron, not a generic patch reused across units.

Design had to follow official Air Force brand guidelines: approved colors, approved shapes, and a format that reads clearly at patch size.

Cherohala Skyway, a mountain road through East Tennessee, grounds the emblem in place. A red-tailed hawk, significant to the Cherokee people, carries the meaning: strength, vision, guardianship. The motto, "Dare to Soar," ties both together.

Working inside Air Force guidelines meant color and shape choices were fixed before design even started. The trade-off was finding meaning inside a constrained system instead of building one from scratch.

The result: an emblem that satisfies command requirements while still speaking to the cadets wearing it, built from a local road, a culturally significant hawk, and a motto that means something to a teenager choosing to reach further.
